Traditional single-side grinding and polishing involves the skill of highly experienced opticians who have an innate understanding of the material removal process. Conventional polishing is applied to the following types of optics:
- Wedged optics
- Parts with thicknesses exceeding 1” (25.4mm)
- Large optics (up to 40” in diameter)
- Lightpipes and prisms
Sydor Optics utilizes a number of continuous grinders and polishers to yield the best possible flat-surfaced optics:
- Strasbaugh 6BK continuous polisher
- Elgin 2-spindle polisher
- Elgin 4-spindle polisher
- Strasbaugh 6Y 4-spindle polisher
- Custom-built sweep arm grinders and polishers for optics measuring up to 40” in diameter
- Saga single spindle polisher
- Strasbaugh 48” and 60” continuous polisher
- Glassmaster and Stahl pitch continuous polishers
