Light Pipes

Light pipes are fabricated in a assortment of shapes and sizes and are designed to channel light from one end to another through Total Internal Reflection (TIR). Light pipes are sometimes referred to as homogenizers, integrator bars or waveguides.

General Specifications:
  • Illumination: Provide uniform or homogeneous illumination
  • Highly Polished: Shiny surfaces to promote total internal reflection
  • Sharp Edges: Minimum or no bevels provide maximum illumination efficiency
Light pipes are used in a variety of illumination systems to provide homogeneous illumination and are typically fabricated from BK-7 or fused silica. Sydor Optics offers rectangular and tapered light pipes (as opposed to cylindrical).
