Sydor Optics, Inc. is a Rochester based manufacturing company fabricating flat-surfaced, precision optics for over 50 years. Our manufacturing facility is located in Chili, NY just west of the Rochester International Airport. Our Sales Team works closely with customers to assist them with custom requests for a variety of markets ranging from entertainment, semiconductor, medical, military and more.

Account Manager

Sydor Optics is seeking an individual to fill an Account Manager role reporting directly to the Sales Manager. The Account Manager has two primary functions. First, to maintain existing customers and secondly, to grow emerging customers.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Actively quoting opportunities and handling customer inquiries to service customer and grow business.
  • Building strong customer relationships, loyalty and retention.
  • Growing emerging customers and maintaining legacy customers.
  • Interpreting optical component drawings and prints.
  • Interfacing closely with manufacturing and process engineering on processes.
  • Working with production planning and manufacturing to ensure delivery dates are met.
  • Representing Sydor Optics at trade shows.
  • Supporting the CRM system including data input.
  • Being proactive in meeting our customer’s needs.
  • Forecasting.
  • Working effectively with others in a team based environment to accomplish organizational goals and to identify and resolve challenges.

Candidates should have a positive attitude, superior communication skills and be able to manage a myriad of tasks simultaneously. Minimum requirement is a 2-year degree in optics, business or communications. A 4-year degree a plus. Previous experience with sales for optics or technology preferred.

Process Development Engineer

Process Development Engineer Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify cost reduction and continuous improvement opportunities as they relate to the function
  • Maximizing the effectiveness of process planning and company-wide quality
  • Providing the development of process planning, monitoring and process performance.
  • Facilitate leadership to achieve operational excellence through the processes of planning, training, analysis of data, and continual improvement

Quality Engineer Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maximizing the effectiveness of Quality
  • Providing the development of quality and inspection planning, monitoring of the manufacturing process performance, establishment of appropriate quality metrics, and the development of inspection data collection, analysis and reporting
  • Providing leadership to achieve operational excellence through the processes of inspection planning, in process and final inspection surveillance, analysis of data, corrective action and continual improvement
  • Maintaining and controlling Quality documentation
  • Facilitate corrective and preventive actions
  • Add value to the manufacturing process
  • Identify cost reduction and continuous improvement opportunities as they relate to the function
  • Interacts regularly with engineering, manufacturing, and service functions to establish quality standards for raw materials, work in process, and finished products
  • Facilitates and coordinates resolution of technical problems with manufacturing, engineering and sales personnel

Shipping/Receiving

Position Summary:

Receive and inspect all incoming shipments and prepare materials/pertinent documentation for processing and prepare outgoing shipments.

Primary responsibilities:

Preparation of all shipments with appropriate packaging, labels and documentation. Receive and unpack all incoming shipments. Performing receiving inspection (metrological, quantitative and visual) on all incoming raw materials, tooling and supplies, documenting receiving in logbook and accounting software program and all measurements and counts on packing slips. Verify observed information with Sydor Optics purchase order information to verify compliance with orders. Portion parts in containers in the appropriate run/batch quantities and enclose job traveler packet prior to any processing. Enter all sales orders, confirm delivery and technical specifications and send order acknowledgement to customers. Update repeat job process instructions with current order information. Order materials, supplies and consumables and follow-up to ensure timely receipt.

Secondary responsibilities:

File packing slips/certifications with customer file. Cleaning the assigned work area along with minor machine maintenance. Additional duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assisting the management team members with maintenance, purchasing, answer telephone calls and take messages, preparation of reports, information gathering, calling on open purchase orders to verify shipment of purchased materials and tooling, including additional duties as delegated by members of the management team.

Qualifications/Skills/Education needed:

  • High school diploma (or equivalent).
  • Math skills to include: decimals, unit conversions, trigonometry and geometry
  • Basic interpretation of print specifications and tolerances
  • Good communications skills.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Excel & Word, Internet Explorer, Outlook Express
  • Good eyesight (or corrected with eye-wear)
